Industrial action - CS052204

A student complained about the impact of industrial action on their studies. The provider rejected the complaint and said that it had taken steps to make sure that students could complete their assessments and it had delivered alternative sessions for those sessions that were missed.

Coronavirus - CS072104

A cohort of students was on a Business-related taught postgraduate course, paying tuition fees of over £24,000. In March 2020 their provider suspended all face-to-face teaching and activities as a result of the nationwide coronavirus lockdown.

A student was in the second year of a three-year undergraduate programme. The student complained to their provider about disruption to their studies during the 2019-20 academic year resulting from industrial action and the Covid-19 pandemic.

A student complained to their provider about the disruption to their studies resulting from industrial action, and the coronavirus lockdown. The student wanted financial compensation or a fee refund.

A student complained to their provider that their studies had been disrupted by industrial action which caused them to miss teaching and that they missed out on more teaching as a result of the move to online lessons during the coronavirus lockdown.

A small group of students were studying for a health-related course with practical elements. They complained to their provider about the quality and delivery of their studies in the first year and disruption during the second year caused by industrial action and lockdown.

Industrial action - CS051901

A student complained to us, through their solicitor, that 31 lectures/tutorials had been cancelled due to industrial action during the first year of their undergraduate degree. The student requested compensation for lost teaching time.

A student was in the final year of an undergraduate degree course at the time of the industrial action. They complained to the provider that they had paid for lectures and seminars which were not provided, that their performance in one module had been affected, and that the industrial action had a detrimental impact on their mental health. They requested a partial refund of tuition fees.

A student was in the first year of a three-year English degree at the time of the industrial action. The student complained to the University that they lost three of 24 weeks teaching in three modules. They also said that the University had not given clear information about the industrial action and the steps it had taken to reduce its impact.

A student was on a one-year foundation course at the time of the industrial action. The student complained to the University that it hadn’t delivered lectures, seminars and academic development sessions which they had paid for, and that some of the missed teaching included core content and study advice.
